My Role
Starting somewhere new in your late 20s is very isolating and difficult. As we get older, we are less likely to make any new friends. This is especially harder for those in a transitional stage in life. This is attributed to feeling lonely and causing isolation from society.
Flock helps people connect on a deeper level that goes beyond the bounds of what social events app can provide. The app is designed to match you to events and friends according to your mutual interests. I did secondary research, ideated, prototyped and did user testing both low and high fidelity to create an app where people can make friends while attending events.
My role as a UX/UI designer is to figure out how we can bridge the gap between attending events and canceling last second by empowering the users to make friends organically at every touchpoint which in turn should increase attendance and provide good connections for the users.
I conducted user research, identified key personas and conducted user testing that would help determine our designers through usability testing.
What prevents our culture from cultivating long term friendships?
With the rise of the internet, while it may be easier to make friends virtually, it is very difficult to make new friends in real life. Friendships that are fostered organically when there are repeated unplanned interactions and/or when they share vulnerability. This is unfortunately something we don’t experience once we are adults outside our 9-5.
